Introduction

Hi, I'm Willow—a queer, LGBTQ+ freelance writer and creative industries organizer. I am currently a Film & Writing student at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge. I am also the founder and former head of the ARU Writers' Guild Society and a member of the ARU Ruskin Journal.

They say to write what you know—but honestly, the world is filled with far more of the unknown. From space, the final frontier, to the deepest depths of Middle-earth, and back in time for tea with the Doctor, what we don’t know is infinitely more exciting.

Born and raised among the flat, unassuming landscapes of Norfolk, I’ve been an aspiring writer for as long as I can remember—spending countless hours lost in every story I could get my hands on.

My Writing Style

Imagine the dry wit of Douglas Adams, the rich lore of Rick Riordan, and a dash of Lemony Snicket—all dusted with a generous sprinkle of queer glitter. That’s the best way to describe my writing. At times, it’s unapologetically brash, like the intrusive thoughts that creep in as you stand at the edge of a steep cliff, wondering, 'What if I just jumped right now?'

Career Goals

I’m still figuring out what kind of writer I want to be. During my college years, I was so certain about what I wanted to be, but after finishing my studies, I truly discovered my passion for writing. Since then, my motto has been: 'Try everything, enjoy what you can, and see where the cards fall before placing your bets.'

My dream job is to work in the writer’s room for shows like Star Trek or Doctor Who. But for now, my midterm goal is to write and publish at least one book before I start calling myself a real adult (and even then, I’ll only use the term very loosely).

In the meantime, I’m eager to break into the writing world however I can—experimenting, exploring, and laying the groundwork for the kind of writer I want to become.
